Safety
Two ideas for 'teaching them about safety' lessons (usually used in Year 7)
1) When talking about tying back long hair - put on a wig, then burn/singe the wig (taking it off head first!) in the flame - gets the point across (watch out for plastic fumes from some wigs)
2) Don't eat/drink/prat about with chemicals. Put 2 glasses on the bench both full of 'purple liquid' - tell the pupils one is Ribena (bring out bottle) the other is dissolved potassium permanagante (bring out bottle - talk about hazards - use hazcard here if desired) - they look very similar, will one of them take the risk?
If one of them does stop them tell them they were both potassium permanganate. (watch out for pupils trying to sniff the liquid though)
